Interpet Publishing to be discontinued in Sera – Interpet takeover
Aquarium and Pond product brand Interpet has entered into an “asset purchase agreement” with German aquatic company Sera Gmbh. Interpet was founded in the 1950s by Dr Neville Carrington, a British chemist who invented Liquifry fry food in his garden shed.
Interpet quickly became a household name in British aquatics, producing heaters, filters, air pumps, and medications, before acquiring the Blagdon pond brand and starting Interpet Publishing. Interpet distributed various brands over the years and has had several owners, most recently American giant Central Garden and Pet.
Sera is a large well well-established family-owned business in Germany that started off producing dry fish foods in the 1970s. Today it has a large portfolio of food, medications, electricals, aquariums and pond products, and the merger will no doubt increase Sera’s presence in the UK, as well as Interpet’s presence in mainland Europe.
There are some brand casualties along the way, however, in Petlove, Comfort Zone, and Interpet Publishing brands, which will be discontinued as of July 1st, 2025.
Interpet Publishing was probably the most important fish book brand in the UK over the last 25 years, with its titles being available nationwide in aquatic stores, and its beginner books educating many a new fishkeeper.
